Another One By

So this semester was an interesting one. One where I of course learned a lot, not only in drawing but also in myself.

Here are some things I've done this past semester.

Specimen Project from Ani 12, taught by John Clapp.

Done in graphite.

That class is so great. I've learned a ton in just seeing things around me.

I'll probably do a better scan later.

For Ani 51A 3D Modeling our final project was a Viking House. This class was fun as well and it was really cool to work on a new project that the previous classes haven't done before.

Some Shots

Overall it was a fun class, and I thoroughly enjoyed modeling. Now I just gotta draw, draw, and DRAW.

Maya Fun

I've been having more fun using Maya lately. I downloaded a free rig online and played around with it. Although, it was a fairly complicated rig for me, so I did something basic.

I think I'll try to find an easier rig next time.

#19

This one was originally something else, but towards the end I thought about the Emerald City and the Yellow Brick Road.

#18

Partly inspired by the Hallelujah Mountains from James Cameron's Avatar (even though I didn't like the film), which were in turn inspired by the Huangshan Mountains in China.

#11

This one actually took a lot less time to do.
I downloaded a couple of free brush sets for space was just playing around with them. There were a lot of ones with a moon background, so I just went with one of the cool looking brushes, then only added the guy in the corner.

This one comes from two sources of inspiration, my friend Brandon Coates and a show called Kamen Rider 555.

In particular these, a robot painted by Brandon and Faiz Blaster Form.

I really want to continue working on this one in addition to other speed paintings as well as explore different brushes and whatnot.

Check out Brandon's work here!

Plein Air #2

There's this tree across the street from my house that has bloomed white flowers.

The white had a tiny bit of yellow in them however, but white was really hard for me to get to show up using the gouache. No matter how much white I used, it just didn't seem to give the effect I wanted.

Maybe I really should have just used a lot more white.

Plein Air # sometime let's say 1

After getting my watercolor moleskine in the mail, I set out to do some plein air painting in gouache yesterday. Although considering I started at about 7:3- pm, I was losing light pretty fast.

When I stepped outside my house to see what I wanted to paint, I saw a fire hydrant by my house being lit by the sunlight. It caused a really cool highlight on the fire hydrant so I instantly wanted to paint it.

I ran into trouble with the highlight as it didn't achieve the effect I wanted. I wanted it to be extremely bright but I couldn't quite get it.

Rocket On.

A rocket painted in acrylic.

Some of the core shadow didn't show up on my camera though.

...and after some fixes....

The ol' Orange and Blue

Did some painting in acrylic from photos using a monochromatic color palette.

This one I did yesterday.

And this one was done today.

Definitely like the second one better, as I had a better time painting. I really focused on shapes and value of course, which I didn't really do on the first one.
