WoW and Figure Drawing

WoW means Word of the Week, not World of Warcraft.....

So our first WoW was "Home."

To me, home is sometimes just sitting outside on a bench somewhere and just enjoying the nice, crisp air in the night sky.

Here are the pages I shelled out my ideas on....

....until I finally made a breakthrough.....

....and voila! I hope you like it!!

Here is some stuff from Figure Drawing with the Shrunkenheadman Club on 9/22. It was quite fun! Some of it was put on my portfolio for my figure drawing class.

Gestures = Story!

"Scribble! Shape! Structure! = Story! Design! Form!"

Was that right? I think that's right....

That was our "lesson" today in my figure drawing class. Sheldon Borenstein is really one of the weirdest teachers I've had so far.

So for class, we had to compile a portfolio of 8-10 of our best gestures. Here is what I turned in.
I think I'm getting better at it. Yay for improvement?

Two old sketches

I've been sick since Saturday, but I am starting to get a little better. I just hope I'm fully recovered by Friday, so I'm all good for Saturday's football game.

Anyhoo, here are a few of my favorite sketches in my first sketchbook. They aren't much, but they were particularly better than the sketches I was dishing at the time. There aren't any dates on them, but they were both done sometime during this past summer.

They don't got no body....but the other guy does....haha.......humor.

This is of my cousin's 2-month-old baby daughter, Sophia. She was sleeping at the time.

School has started.....some time ago

I'm going to try to update more now that school has started. For this Fall 2011, I'm taking Ani 28 and 55, so I will be drawing a lot, a lot a lot. But don't fret, that's a good thing.

So in Ani 28, we're working on cubes and how to draw them in perfect perspective, location studies, and gestures. The cubes were really confusing at first, but I think I was able to pull through.

Here are some pages of drawing cubes freehand from my sketchbook. They were done by me holding a plastic cube in one hand and draw with the other. as much as I can in an hour.

Then we went on to perspective. Perspective was somewhat hard for me and it took me a little while to get, but now it's okay at best. Gotta keep on practicing!

This one above should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise, but eh...

Next we did location studies. We just sat somewhere and drew what we saw, which is what I did.......sort of.

It's been a lot of work but I love every minute of it. :) I'll post what I've done in figure drawing later. I gotta get back to cubes....

Samurai Boy

This is a character that I was working on, but unfortunately didn't finish. I'm not really sure what to do with the background though. I can't think of any good ideas. Not only that, I need to try to add value to his clothing and sword. Any suggestions?

NOTE: It came out kind of funky due to my scanner....

More sketchbook pages

Here is one from about a week ago. The bottom sketch is that of my sister Angie (no, her chin isn't that large. I just happened to make it like that.), and the sign is Olive Garden's hours plaque thing. The other three are just stuff I did when I was bored. I particularly like the head facing left.

This page was from today while I was out and about after work. Some guy at a fast food restaurant and two people from on the bus. Sketching on the bus is a tad bit difficult.....

Starting off

Well hello there!

I know it's a little early for me to have a blog, but I thought it couldn't hurt. Since I'm only starting off, for now I'll most likely post stuff from my sketchbook that I happen to like, whether they be doodles, sketches, or actual drawings, either from imagination or life.

Let's begin shall we?

The above character was just something I threw together after playing Ratchet: Deadlocked for PS2. I guess you can call it an anthropomorphic dog type of character. I like it so maybe it'll show up in other ideas.
This guy I like because he looks like someone you DO NOT want to cross paths with. Maybe I'll create a body for him when I learn figure drawing and all that good stuff.
